Se divide en Old Bond Street y New Bond Street.

IN LONDON WITH MRS DALLOWAY

After readVirginia Woolf's novel, "Mrs. Dalloway", I closed my eyes and I felt alone with Clarissa Dalloway and have had the need to absorb her wisdom, his power of watching the world through her eyes and soul. Our lives are as wonderful collages made of beautiful moments and nostalgic reflections that comes from the past. A compendium of moments that really form our history individually. Two years ago I was privileged to make  Mrs. Dalloway walk. I follow the path that Virginia Woolf described in her novel. While I was walking, I can see all the events that it took place in the novel  a summer day in London. The Walk starts when Clarissa Dalloway leaves her house to get flowers she said she would buy them to celebrate a party that night .

She lives in  Westmister area which is a very iconic part of London. It has always been a political, the monarchy and the religious authority center, from the fourteenth century Parliament is located which shares the cobblestone streets in the Big Ben shadows.Clarissa Dalloway is surrounded by a high social class and granted privileges neighbourhood. Richard Dalloway (Clarissa's husband) is an important conservative politician.

In this area is Westminster Abbey which was built in the eleventh century by Edward the Confessor who decided to take up residence there also he built a palace which was then the seat of parlament Houses  nowadays and next to the Abbey it is a monastery. The arch just south of Westminster Column leading to Dean's Yard, which was part of  Abbey  gardens and nowadayst it is  surrounded by houses. On the east side is the entrance to Westminster School or Saint Peter College, which was the old monastic school, it was built in 1339, it is restored by Queen Elizabeth in 1560, and now it is one of the great public schools. you can visit on Saturday afternoon. The Big Ben struck ten and Clarissa Dalloway crossing Victoria Street. Victoria Street is a small district in central London in whole it is  within the Westminster area, and   it is named for Queen Victoria. It consists primarily of commercial premises and private and social housing. Quickly we follow Clarissa Dalloway from Dean Farrar Street to Queen Mary's Gate, and passing by the houses of two important politicians in the First World War Sir Edward Grey and Lord Maldane Near Dean Farrar Street it is Saint James Park which  is the oldest of the  Royal Parks
.St James's Park is surrounded by Buckingham Palace to the west, The Mall and St James's Palace to the North, Horse Guards to the east and south Bridcage Walk. The park has a small lake, St. James's Park Lake, there are with two islands, Duck Island ( it was named so because of the collection of ducks from the lake), and West Island. A bridge across the lake offers a magnificent view west of Buckingham Palace framed by trees and fountains, and a great view of the main building of the foreing and Commonwealth Office at east. In the novel  it was a beautiful summer morning, the sun was shining and the sky had a bright blue. Clarissa arrived at the park and saw the green of the trees and the grass which had a more beautiful color than ever.
Following towards south, Clarisse Dalloway reaches Picadilly where she stood awhile looking omnibuses. Piccadilly is a major London street, here it is located the theaters where the best re presentations and entertainment are shown. There are a variety to choose from. This street was called until the seventeenth century Portugual Street, but it was changed to Picadilly because  a tailor  amassed a fortune doing costumes called Picadilly  then  they were  trendy and  he bought a large land in London and  he built a mansion  in that street which was called Piccadilly Hall.
After the detour to Hatchard's, Clarissa Dalloway turned to Bond Street, this street fascinated her.  she liked looking at the windows of the most exclusive shops. She loved Butler & Wilson window shop. I have to say that when I visited this street, it fascinated me too. Bond Street is one of the most elegant streets for being an exclusive shopping area of London and the world. It is divided into Old Bond Street and New Bond Street. Since the nineteenth century  it was when the street began to be important for its exclusive boutiques and art galleries that aroused the interest of the gentry and it became one of the most fashionable streets and visited. It is a compulsory walk for Vip and famous people to have clothing stores and couture  and exclusive brands. Continuing my walk along the New Bond you there is  the splendid windows in Mallet which is an art shop and antiques founded in 1865, it is one of the most exclusive antique shops in the world.

The florist where Clarissa Dalloway bought flowers, in front  she looked out   Mulberry's window shop, this shop is still there, it is a wonderful shop with all kinds of accessories.
After buying her flowers Clarissa Dalloway headed back home but  she wanted to go through Regent Park, this is one of the real park in the city center where you can enjoy a nice relaxing walk. In the center of the park there is a source of stone and  there is a rose  garden which is dedicated to The Queen Mary. With this walk in the park Regent Mrs. Dalloway came home and she started to organize her party, as  good hostess, she strives to make everything  is perfect.

pSIQUE IN MY DREAMS

Oh winged goddess Psyche, the most youngest and most beautiful of theOlympus goddesses!.Last night in my dreams  you were telling me about your sorrows. Although beautiful and virtuous you were much envied by all, turning you back, they never wanted to give your place as a goddess, forgetting about to build a temple, an altar and choir.
Now already awake  and understanding your pain, I would become  priestess and I am going to edify you a temple  that  you deserve  in the most beautiful garden that there might be. There the most beautiful jasmine entangled column to decorate your altar and leave it on their trail a delicious smell. Blackbirds you sing precious odes next to the nymphs which inhabit in the  bluebells  to venerate and adoring you  as the most special of the goddesses. Poplars will be witness your prodigious mantic in your Oracle questions.
Dear Psyche, I promise you a window into your temple which it will remain open during the night so that the god Eros can come to seek you out  and thus to protect the jealous Aphrodite. Refugees in a place which on a white roses bed   and in light of the fireflies, you may be able to love and to  be happy forever.

WEEKEND IN LINCOLN

As  is well know  my passion for visiting places in the UK, when I feel nostalgia for those places, I feel the need to revise my travels photo  and postcards albums. When I turned the pages of one of the albums I saw the pictures and postcards of the city of Lincoln and I was reminded a great deal of emotions I could feel at the moment to visit this city since most of  visitors I passed by and when he was passing its atmosphere and environment engulfed me so much that I decided to look for  a hotel and spend the weekend there which became  memorable  days.

Brayford Pool
Lincoln's story begins in "Brayford Pool", a natural harbor on the River Witham. Here was a settlement in the Iron Age known as "Lindun".When the Romans invaded England and arrived here recognized the strategic importance and they had decided to establish its garrison here,  naming it "Lindum" later was called "Colonia Lindum", from this name is derived its present name  Lincoln. After the Romans left  the city , it was occupied by the Anglo-Saxon kingdom of Linsey and even after the Danes became the 5 main burghs of Danelaw. The Normans also were able to recognize the natural strategic position of Lincoln.

The Castle
going up to Steep Hill in the heart of the city is Lincoln Castle built by William the Conqueror in 1068, two years after his arrival in England. The castle in its originality was a high mound topped by a palisade beyond this mound was a complex named Bailey whose name lives on today. The castle now has a courtyard while the outer rampart extending throughout the city. the Castle works as a court house for 900 years now from its walls you can see the original copy of the Magna Carta signed by King John in 1215.
Lincoln Cathedral
Leaving the castle began my walk towards Lincoln Cathedral dating back to 1072 and it is considered the third largest cathedral in England with a large nave held up by limestone and marble columns. The stained glass windows are triggered in a wonderful vault and the inside is enhanced with complex carved in stone and wood. We must highlight the famous carving "Lincoln Imp" in the Angel Choir, that  was a stonecutter's joke who has become the official emblem of the city. Lincoln Cathedral with an impressive central tower, it is the highest in the country after  Salisbury cathedral which is  81 meters high. Next to the cathedral are the ruins of the old episcopal palace, memories of a time when the bishops of Lincoln were the most powerful of the earth including Hugh of Avalon who was later sanctified as St. Hugh whose grave is in Lincoln cathedral and  also the Bishop Thomas Wolsey was later named Cardinal and advisor to  Henry the eighth.
Medieval Old Town
Lincoln preserved medieval old town. It is a pleasure to walk through this and contemplate the many buildings built between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, as "Jewish house" which may be the oldest house in Europe. This charming historic stone house was probably built in 1150 is located in The Strait that connects with Steep Hill and high Street. It is called so because in the thirteenth century its owner Bellaset of Wallingford, was a Jewish woman who was executed for clipping coins. The Jewish community was expelled from England in 1290 and the house was foreclosed. Also here you can see Tudor style houses with half-timbered.
High Bridge
High Bridge is the oldest in England, built in the twelfth century. It is the most sophisticated bridge in this place, which have houses built over. In one of the house of the bridge today  it is  a café called "Stokes". This establishment dates from 1902. They brew their own beer and has a large selection of teas and coffees. It offers wonderful views of the River Witham. Taking something inside is very welcoming as it has a very dim lighting and jazz background music. It is a perfect place to relax and watch the swans passing by the river.
Guildhall and Stonebow

Walking through the ancient Roman settlement of Lindum just in the south gate of the ancient Roman city  later it was built  the Guildhall, a wonderful Tudor building located above an bow called "Stonebow". This building is the Municipal council since 1520 and the official seat of Lincoln mayor. Stonebow replaced the Roman walkway on the south end of the colony. Stonebow comes from the word "Stonnibogi", a Nordic word meaning stone arch. Of particular interest is the south side adorned with beautiful statues and carved heads of mythical beasts and strange creature. There is a bell that has been used since 1371 to advertise the meetings of the municipal council. There is also a prison where it is sentenced by old debts that now it has become the civic insignia room hosts a variety of civic historical treasures, like the sword of Richard the second and  Charles the first mace.
Usher Gallery
Lincoln City also has a wide variety of museums. Of note is the Usher Gallery is an art museum. Its origin comes from a local jeweler "James Ward Usher" who became rich after creating aftershocks Lincoln Elf on jewelry. late nineteenth century  became collector of decorative arts objects. At his death he donated the collection to the city. The collection was opened by the Prince of Wales in May 1927. it has built a new building opened in 2005 after a hard work which included an archaeological dig.
Lincolnshire Life Museum

Another museum of interest is Lincolnshire life museum . This museum illustrates the social history of the last centuries of Lincolnshire. Inside it  is focused on agriculture and industry exhibitions in the region in the past. It should also emphasize between exposures there is a tank of the First World War in memory of Lincolnshire development of this war machine.

Here it ended my visit to  Lincoln for me it was a great unknown and now that I found out  it forms part of my favorite places in the UK

REMEMBERING MONA LISA SMILE

I find it difficult to believe that Wellesley College was so reactionary in autumn 1953 as in the movie Mona Lisa Smile. The film shows us this prestigious  college where he taught among others how to be a good wife, how to behave, how to set
the table, and be beautiful for the occasion, did not give importance to the subjects to have professional future, because the only aspiration a woman is to be the best mother and wife. The arrival of the lecturer Katherine Watson (Julia Roberts) changes everything inspiring students to learn about other values including to have freedom through   art history. Look through the slides and identify the masterpieces of modern art painting is  as wake them up for example K. Watson leads them to observe a painting by Jackson Pollock who was put in a package, there is shown the manner in which the teacher want to open the eyes of her students to modernity leaving behind the ancient and conservative. Since then the university board of management is always on the lookout for Katherine Watson from its thoughts more conservatives is scared that Miss watson endangers the institution which labeling her as subversive. Between the students there is one  who resists change and  it is  led by Betty (Kristen Dunst), whose mother is on the board of trustees whose plans are to marry her daughter with a good husband who has studied at Harvard and having many children. Betty is a person through the university newspaper tries to hurt the teachers do not follow the conservative line center, for example,  she wrote that Katherine Watson was a person with communist ideals and promiscuity, this student was a perverse person who taking advantage of the power that her family had in college to publish in the newspaper a criticism about college nurse who gave advice contraconceptives and then  she was fired  from her job immediately.
This movie is not the story of the typical teacher who enlightens and guides her students then overcome all adversities of the plot, but it's a film that prompts you to reflect and care more than we expect. I Sometimes  imagine feeling like a free spirit in a closed system making me question who I empathize more if with  the  thirties lecturer or her with twenties students. Katherine Watson is brave, intelligent she reminds me when the president of the institution to which told  Katherine which was the priority of the students and Watson told her, that she thought she was going to a place where she instructed leaders of  tomorrow nor their wives .Julia Roberts is mostly an actress I feel I have a lot of empathy and desire to protect it. In the Mona Lisa smile, she is the conduit to the argument, which flows through her character. The Best supporting roles are played by actresses Julia new generation after, as Dunst and Maggie Gyllenhaal also where the interpretation is masterful. In typical movie where the heroes are teachers. The main character thinks the answer lies in the exuberance, freedom and let time pass while in this movie Katherine despairs when he sees her students lose their talent without setting their sights on a better future.
The film directed by Mike Newell, it may be quite aware of their sexual politics and it might even have been more compelling if Katherine and her students had fought together to escape the bondage genre, but the characters are not involved, or sympathizes with their dreams and desperate vision into the path of marriage and at the end we were relieved to hear Miss Watson and that makes us become the wonderful people we are today.
