A CHRISTMAS CAROL

A Christmas Carol traducido en castellano como Cuento de Navidad o Canción de Navidad es una novela corta escrita por Charles Dickens que en estas fechas navideñas siempre en la televisión vemos alguna adaptación de esta obra. A Christmas Carol es una alegoría  en el que presenta eventos y personajes con una simbologia significativa clara y  establecida. En la Novela Scrooge  representa todos los valores opuestos a lo que representa la Navidad. Se  pone en tela de juicio  los valores espirituales frente a los materiales. El fantasma del pasado  con su resplandeciente cabeza  simboliza a la memoria, el fantasma de la Navidad del presente representa la generosidad , la empatía y el espirítu de la navidad  y el fantasma de la Navidad futura representa el miedo a la muerte y a la moral. Los Cratchis representan la pobreza a los que Charles Dickens los retrata con amabilidad y simpatía para llamar la atención de su drama. Charles Dickens  estructura la obra como si se tratara  de un pentagrama con notas musicales. La elección del  titulo de la obra "A Christmas Carol" canción  de navidad o villancico, aunque este tipo de canción raramente se canta en solitario , aquí Dickens quiso subrayar el tema de la temporalidad  en su obra, ya que las canciones son formas temporales que depende de la repetición de estribillos. El tiempo es importante  en A Christmas Carol , pues en su  estructura se centra en presente pasado y futuro, pero el  esquema temporal  de la historia  en si parece tener poco sentido . En la Nochebuena ,  Jacob Marley anuncia a Scrooge que sera visitado por tres fantasmas , parece que son tres noches pero en realidad  todo ocurre en una sola noche . La presencia de los fantasmas aparentemente se inclina a el flujo del tiempo. Esta opinión ha sido corroborada por el hecho  de que Scrooge  se va a la cama a las dos de la madrugada y el fantasma de Marley lo visita a media noche  esa misma noche ,  dos horas después de  quedarse dormido. Dickens usa  incoherencia temporal para enfatizar los poderes sobrenaturales de los espíritus. Ellos están alrededor de los  estandartes terrenales, incluyendo el flujo del tiempo , que no tiene efecto.  A través  de Scrooge  el protagonista de esta obra , Dickens nos muestra  la realidad de la sociedad victoriana de la Inglaterra del Siglo XIX  porque refleja  lo equivocada que estaba la sociedad victoriana, el capitalismo, la falta de valores  y la avaricia. El libro se basa en la época  de  la Navidad, porque  Navidad  quiere decir tiempo de solidaridad, amor y  generosidad para todos, especialmente para los menos afortunados. Dickens usa la Navidad para ayudar a los lectores a reflexionar sobre la sociedad y su falta de valores cristianos. Dickens  demuestra el  egoísmo del capitalismo, especialmente en Londres, la avaricia del rico y como de mal tratan al pobre.Él  expresa sus sentimientos a través de muchos personajes en la novela. Dickens  deja  muy claro  su repugnancia  hacia el capitalismo industrial que en la ciudad  de Londres  se concibió. La ciudad se retrata fea y sucia porque simboliza la avaricia de la gente que vive allí como Scrooge. Hay una gran simetría entre A Christmas Carol y la conversación de Scrooge al final de la novela. Se centra en la metamorfosis de Scrooge, es decir después de la visita de los tres fantasmas Scrooge cambia de actitud . El Scrooge avaro, antipatico  al principio de la novela que convierte en una persona  afable y bondadosa.  Llega el día de Navidad  y Scrooge piensa que ha tenido una pesadilla infernal, se despierta como un hombre feliz, caritativo y redimido. Esto nos enseña que cualquier persona puede cambiar su comportamiento a ser mejor persona. Dickens da a entender que eso se puede dar en cualquier sociedad.

A Christmas Carol is a short novel which was written by Charles Dickens . At Christmas we can always watch some adaptation of this work. A Christmas Carol is an allegory in which presents events and charaters with  clear  and  setting  significant simbolism. In the novel Scrooge represents opposite values  in respect of Christmas represents. It is  called  into question the spiritual values against the materials, The Ghost of the past Christmas  with its glowing head symbolizes the memory, the ghost of presnet Christmas  represent the generosity and empathy and the ghost of the  futureChristmas  is the fear  of death and reckoning moral. The Cratchis represents poverty to which Charles Dickens portrays them with kindness and sympathy to draw the attention of their plight. Charles Dickens structures the work in Staves, The choice of the title "Christmas Carol" it is because Dickens wanted to highlight the issue of the temporality on his work since the songs are temporary forms, it depends on the repitition of choruses.Carols are never sung by one  if not they are always sung among a group . Hence his uniqueness. Time is important in Christmas Carol, because its structure is focused on the past and  the future, but time schedule of the story itself seems to make little sense. On Christmas Eve Jack Marley announces to Scrooge that will be visited by three ghosts, it looks like all of that occurs on three nights consecutives but it occurs during a night. The presence of ghosts apparently bend the flow of time. This view has been noted by the fact that Scrooge goes to bed at two in the morning and Marley's ghost visits him at midnight that night, two hours after falling asleep. Dickens uses temporal incohence to emphasize the supernatural powers of spirits. They are with earthly standars, including the flow of the time, it has not effect. Through Scrooge the main character of this work, Dickens shows us the reality of victorian society in England in the nineteenth century because it reflects how wrong it was victorian society, capitalism. They are lack of values and greed. This book is based on Christmas season, because Christmas means time of solidarity, generosity and love for all, especially for the less fortunate. Dickens Christmas uses to help the readers to reflect on society and their lack of Christmas values. Dickens shows the selfishness of capitalism especially in London, the greed of the rich people and as the poor people are treated badly. He tries to express their feelings through many characters in the novel. Dickens makes clear his distate industrial capitalism which was conceived in London City. The city is portrayed ugly and dirty because it symbolizes the greed of people who live as Scrooge there. There is a symmetry between A Christmas Carol and Scrooge's conversation at the end of the novel. It focuses on the metamorphosis of Scrooge, ie after the three ghosts visit Scrooge changes in attitude. The greedy, unfriendly Scrooge at the beginning at the novel that he becomes a gentle and caring people. The day of Christmas and Scrooge thinks he has a hellish nightmare, wakes up as a happy, charitable and redeedmed man. This teaches us that anyone can change their behaviour to become a better person. Dickens suggest that this makes it possible to give in any society.
